Thermocouple

Thermocouples are most widely used in measurement of temperature in variety of applications. They are frequently chosen primarily because of their wide temperature ranges, durability, very high temperature limits and inexpensive in cost for normal temperature measurements. Thermocouples are present in almost all industries: Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Pharmaceutical, SEMICON, General Manufacturing and many others. 

Thermocouples are available in several types; K, J, R, S, B, T, E and N. The most commonly used thermocouple is Type K. It is most popular because of its wide temperature range and low cost. The selection on the type of thermocouples to be used also based on measuring requirements like extremely high temperature or accuracy or both.

Usually the thermocouples are housed in stainless steel or PTFE sleeved probe depending on the corrosiveness of the working environment. Ceramic sheath would be needed for extremely high temperature measurement. Many mounting options are also available.
